DMS & DHS Tech Ed Teacher, Mr. Butusov, joined the worldwide movement of people using 3D printers to meet the shortage of masks and face shields for hospital staff on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic!

After reaching out to Upland Hills Health to see how our school district could help support our local healthcare workers in case personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies become limited, Mr. Butusov used our school’s 3D printers to create filter systems used for Bag Valve Masks (BVMs). In less than a week, 20 filter systems were printed and 200 filters were cut to fit into the systems. Along with the filter systems, he also printed 30 ear protectors. These 3D printed mask “ear-savers” help relieve the pressure around the ears, making the masks, and the person wearing them, more comfortable.

Thuli Tables, family business of School Board Member Jessica Wieczorek, generously provided the elastic used to secure the mask to the face, then the filter systems were assembled, sterilized, packaged, and donated to our friends at Upland Hills Health!
